The Must See Looks From SA Fashion Week Night One

SA Fashion Week has become one of the most important social events in Mzansi. In its third year at the Mall of Africa in Johannesburg, fashion designers from all over the world showed off their edgy, elegant, unique, and new collections on the runway. They did not fail to push the limits of fashion.

With a special invite, ZAlebs got to see the fashion and glam of the event up close. The first day began with the Cruz Collection, where designers showed off their beautiful work. Michael Ludwig Studios started the night off with a bang when he showed off his Self-Sapien collection, which was nothing less than amazing.

The Cruz Collection

This year’s Cruz Collective introduced Michael Ludwig Studio’s Self-Sapien range. He utilized bright colours and abstract printing techniques, and his collection aimed to “replace binary stereotypes & gender roles with self-expression and self-expression.”

Artclub and Friends.

The Artclub and Friends collection by Robyn Keyser used “future-oriented materials and construction techniques to create another trans-seasonal and timeless collection.”

Fikile Zamagcino Sokhulu

Fikile is no stranger to the SA Fashion Week. In 2018, her achievements as a student included showcasing, for the first time and she was also part of the Cheers Qingdao Fashion Project in China in 2018, she was also a finalist for the New Talent Award of the South African Fashion Week. Many of her garments were colorful, trendy and stunning.

Black dominated her collection and her esthetics appealed particularly to young Black women worldwide.

What inspired your designs today?

Mostly, the concept of a black diamond, like finding this rear beauty. I used metalics farics like black and just adorning black women and their beauty.

How long did it take for you to work on your garments?

Its a process, I can say that it all came down together wihin a month. But I have been digesting thoughts for like three momths.

How different is the SA Fashion Week this year compared to the one you attended in 2018?

In 2018 I started out as a student through DUT Rise of the Arts fashion show. I showcased four garments, but now I am showcasing as an individual designer and I am showcasing my esthetics that I have developed over the years.

What does it mean for you to be here?

It means a lot we’ve been working together with my assistant to create this collection and being able to be given this opportunity and be present and grow my brand is incredible.
