Wish On Florida, the restaurant where rapper AKA literally had his last supper, has announced their permanent closure. And, according to the restaurant, business has been declining since the tragedy.
On 11 February, unknown gunmen shot and killed the hitmaker and friend Tebello Tibz Motsoane outside the Durban hotspot. This comes after the star allegedly shared his location on Instagram Stories.
Wish On Florida’s management announced their permanent closure on 10 April, exactly two months after AKA and Tibz’s murder, in a statement released on Monday, 3 April.
It said: “In light of the recent tragic event on our doorstep, we have experienced a severe downturn in business, which leaves the directors with no other option but to close the business permanently, as the brand equity of Wish on Florida has been deeply hindered.”
The statement went on to thank its loyal customers for their support over the last three years of its operation.
“This was not an easy decision to make,” it added.

The award-winning restaurant – owned by Philani Kweyama, Wayne Ndlovu, and Benny Maverick, invited the public to celebrate their last week of operation.
To mark the occasion of their farewell on 10 April, Wish on Florida would host an event called “The Last Supper.”
Shortly after AKA’s death, Kweyama revealed that the star had been a strong supporter of his business.
He said in a media briefing: “Just to take you to his last moments, that was the happiest I’d ever seen Kiernan in the whole time that I’d known him. The way he embraced me when he came through when he called me saying, ‘I want to cut my hair at your new spot, I want to eat at your place’…
“He was there to support all of us; he was there to support Durban.”
Of AKA’s untimely death, Kweyama added: “I’m sad because it happened and even sadder that it happened here.”
Meanwhile, police are seemingly back to the drawing board after reports indicated that recent arrests were unrelated to the rapper’s death.
Minister of Police Bheki Cele confirmed that five men who were arrested in Cape Town, and transported to Durban, did not have anything to do with AKA’s murder.
He told the SABC: “There was this thing that people have been arrested. From the side of SAPS, we have never said so, but we are investigating.
“I have said that. Fortunately, we have found the getaway car of the killers positively identified. We are working on things like downloads of the cell [cellphone data/records]. We’ve collected a lot of them. We agreed that it is not going too fast, but we are definitely in the right direction”.
