Unathi Nkayi dumps Somizi
Somizi Mhlongo’s marriage to Mohale Motaung ended in August 2021, after an audio tape of Mohale talking about how Somizi had hurt him physically and mentally got out.
After the abuse claims, Unathi Nkayi stopped using Somizi and stopped being friends with him on social media. She was one of Somizi Mhlongo’s friends that he lost after the abuse claims.
When American R&B singer R. Kelly was found guilty of sex crimes against minors a few months later, it was clear that the two were no longer friends. The former Kaya FM host posted on Instagram that everyone should stop listening to his music because the court had ruled against him.
“To ALL my friends who think you’re going to CONTINUE playing R Kelly in my presence. TODAY IT STOPS. No more philosophical B*LL SHIT about you separating the genius from the MONSTER. It STOPS TODAY HMKAY…unless you LOVE being a trigger,” read her post.
Not all of her fans liked Unathi Nkayi’s post, and some were quick to call her “hypocritical” because she was friends with Somizi, Jub Jub, and DJ Fresh and DJ Euphonik, all of whom had been linked to a rape case. Amanda du-Pont and Kelly Khumalo had accused Somizi and Jub Jub of assault, and DJ Fresh and DJ Euphonik had also been accused of rape.
Unathi Nkayi denied being friends with any of them when they said they were, which proved that her friendship with Somizi was over.

Somgaga’s friend Vusi Nova brought up the subject of his friendship with Unathi Nkayi on an episode of his reality show Living The Dream With Somizi.
Somizi told her that he was upset with her and didn’t want to talk to her again. He also told her not to even look at him. He went on to say that they both worked in the same field, so he couldn’t avoid her, but he would be professional.
Unathi Nkayi’s contract as a judge on Idols SA was not renewed after the show was picked up for an 18th season. She had been on the show for 10 years.
Somizi’s friend joked on the season finale of his reality show about why he had fired the other people (this was in reference to Unathi Nkayi and Randall Abrahams whose contracts as Idols judges had not been renewed). Somizi said he had nothing to do with it and that his mother had already taken care of it.
