‘What Was I Thinking?’ Khanyi Mbau On Her Failed Album

Khanyi Mbau just found out that Tweeps found her long-lost music album, and her reaction is hilarious. The album was discovered after a Tweep tweeted a snippet of one of the songs. Igwinya is the song in question, and it has many South Africans in stitches as they listen to what the reality TV star had to offer musically so many years ago.

Taking to Instagram, the star appeared surprised that the music had been discovered. In true Khanyi fashion, she admitted that she should not have pursued a career in music.

KHANYI MBAU ADDRESSES HER RECENTLY RESURFACED MUSIC CAREER
One thing many people never knew before is the fact that Khanyi Mbau once dabbled in music.

In fact, 13 years ago, the Young, Famous, and African star released an entire album of songs from sounds like a mixture of kwaito and pop.

While Khanyi probably believed the album would stay hidden forever, one Tweep unearthed one of her songs ‘Gwinya’, and shared it on the app on Wednesday this week.

The tweet went viral and soon Khanyi was trending.

NANDO’S CHIPS IN ON THE FUN
Fast food restaurant Nando’s even hilariously blamed Khanyi’s song for the rise in magwinya prices.

It appears Khanyi noticed all of the buzz around her and her music and decided to address it in an Instagram post.

Taking to her stories she wrote:

“Imagine make an album good or not, 15 years ago and it flops to only get recognition in 2023. The recognition being comical.”

“What was I thinking?” she wrote.

“I was 20 and it fell flat on its face. I was too caught up in my ex and other things in my life. You have to work on your music and I didn’t give music enough of my time so it flopped,” she previously told TshisaLive

The songs have been used on several Tik Tok videos and are starting to trend online as fans react to the songs and their interesting lyrics.

@OfficialBongile said: “Khanyi Mbau was so unserious. She really didn’t sing ‘Bhuti ndicel’igwinya’ please. ‘Iskhokho sidl’amagwinya’ in 2010.

“How in God’s name did I miss this era?🤣🤣🤣🤣.”

Mbau took to her Instagram stories and shared her reaction to the songs that have been dug out and even joked that she needs to remake “Gwinya”.

“The lyrics are trash,” she wrote, adding running and hand over the mouth emojis.

“Ama 2k are coming for me in numbers… this Gen is the coolest!! I deserved this mind set then,” she captioned a repost of a Tik Tok video using one of her songs.

Since her failed 2010 album, Mbau has had a few stints, back in the studio in 2016, she released “Shake” and “Ubusuku Bonke” in 2020.
