Singer Vusi Nova’s rumored ex-boyfriend Aeghatidis Andreas Socrate (who used the alias Joseph Safra to commit his crimes) has been released from prison after serving his sentence for fraud and money laundering, according to Zimoja.
According to the publication, Socrate has taken on a new identity as Jonathan Rothschild since his release. The ex-convict is also said to be keeping a low profile and has not been in contact with Vusi Nova, real name Vusimuzi Nongxa.
However, Socrate has been active on TikTok. He is also allegedly “assisting” asylum seekers in entering South Africa.

Lance Stehr — who is the musician’s manager and the owner of Muthaland Entertainment — said that the Ndikuthandile hitmaker will not comment on Socrate’s release. A source also claimed that Vusi Nova wants to keep his clean image, hence the distance from his alleged ex-lover.
In May 2018, IOL reported that Afro-pop star Vusi Nova appeared in the Specialised Commercial Crime Court as he faced nine counts of fraud and one count of money laundering totalling almost R1 million.
The Thandiwe singer and Socrates (who also went by the name Jonathan Searle) allegedly swindled the late Leon Kruger and his wife Catharina Johanna Kruger between 2011 and 2014.
Socrate allegedly misrepresented himself to the Krugers as late Brazilian billionaire Dr Joseph Safra’s son of Safrasa Investments. He named Vusi Nova as the managing director.
In 2011, he offered the Krugers jobs at “his father’s company”. He also allegedly got the singer to sign a false employment contract with the Krugers.
Socrates then swindled the Krugers to pay about R830 000 into Safrasa’s account. In addition, he borrowed a further R55 000 from the Krugers as a loan to assist the musician with family problems.
