Unathi Nkayi Gets Her Doctorate Degree

BYadmin

Unathi Nkayi, a television and radio broadcaster born on November 6, 1978 in Grahamstown, South Africa, has grown to become one of the country’s most popular personalities.

She is adored not only for her broadcasting abilities, but also for her incredible voice.

Unathi Nkayi has had a successful radio career spanning two decades.

She has worked with some of the country’s most prominent radio stations, including YFM, Metro FM, Kaya FM, and Star FM.

Today, she announces her doctorate and introduces herself to the public as Dr Nkayi.

“My paternal grandfather named me Fundiswa, a name I grew up hating NOT understanding the generational curses he was breaking at THAT moment.”

Unathi now understands why her grandfather chose that name for her.

“As the only grandchild he named  something I brag about to all my cousins and sisters‍️‍️‍️ I now understand what he was doing for our family. His son and his wife, my parents left SA for 11 years and raised us out of the country for THAT specific reason.”

Unathi  continued “Because my grandparents wanted ALL of us to be educated at a time when apartheid wouldn’t allow it for us black people. My parents only saw their parents twice in this time because of THIS sacrifice.”

The former Idols SA judge has grown to appreciate her middle name even more. Dr Nkayi and I both agree that education looks good on her.

Unathi Nkayi was fired by her employer at the time, Kaya 959, near the end of 2021 after she allegedly violated the radio’s standards, though the station did not reveal the specifics of her transgressions.

“Ms Nkayi’s contract has ended prematurely due to certain conduct that rendered the relationship intolerable going forward. Kaya 959 can confirm that certain incidents had occurred, which resulted in the breakdown of the trust relationship between the two parties.
“The business can further confirm that due process was followed and the decision was therefore made to part ways with Ms Nkayi,” read part of Kaya FM’s statement.

After Unathi Nkayi’s dismissal became public, several theories about what happened arose, with some reports claiming that she was involved in a heated argument with her former colleague Sizwe Dhlomo.

Unathi Nkayi took to Instagram a few days after leaving Kaya 969 to make a statement about what happened. In her statement, she revealed that Kaya 959 had silenced her and that she was not allowed to discuss what happened in public due to a contractual agreement, and that she had turned the matter over to her attorney.

Nkayi also cleared the air about the GBV stories that had been circulating, claiming that she had never accused Sizwe of committing GBV against her.
