During a media briefing in Pretoria, Gauteng, Justice Minister Ronald Lamola and Police Minister Bheki Cele revealed that the couple was arrested along with a Mozambican national by police in Tanzania.
According to Cele, the trio — who were in the west African country illegally — were caught 10 kilometres away from the Kenyan border with multiple fake passports.
“He was in a black SUV, three of them. They were stopped…by the police of Tanzania,” Cele said.
Lamola said that a South African delegation as well as South African Police Services (SAPS) would leave for Tanzania on Sunday to ensure the couple is brought back home.
“We are confident that, indeed, the good mutual working relations we have with Tanzania will enable us to ensure that all the fugitives South Africa is looking for… can be brought back to South Africa as speedily as possible,” Lamola said.
