Dr Nandipha Magudumana’s father, who has reportedly been customarily married to fugitive rapist and murderer Thabo Bester, has spoken out for the first time since the shocking scandal broke.
In an interview with eNCA on Wednesday, March 29, he expressed concern about his daughter, who is currently in hiding.
Magudumana’s father told an eNCA journalist that his daughter called to inquire about her mother’s health. He expressed concern for her safety, revealing that she had told him she was in hiding.
“One time she was in touch with me when all this fracas started. She was asking me about her mom’s health and she said she is in hiding … she didn’t need to explain to me, I know what is happening there in Johannesburg. [I am] very worried. How can I not be worried about my daughter?” he said.
In addition, he said that he does not want anyone to find her. He, however, said he does not know where she is hiding.
“I don’t want any person to know her whereabouts because I don’t trust anybody. It’s a very sensitive matter. I have left it to the people to do their investigations and all that,” he told eNCA.
Earlier this month, GroundUp brought to light the Thabo Bester prison break scandal with the publication reporting that a man who looked like the “Facebook rapist” was photographed doing shopping at a Woolworths store in June 2022 — a month after correctional services announced his death.
Bester was serving a life sentence for rape and murder in Mangaung Correctional Centre, a maximum security prison operated by G4S, a multinational company when a fire broke out in his cell burning him beyond recognition. However, at the weekend, the Department of Correctional Services (DCS) confirmed that Bester had escaped on 3 May 2022.
According to reports, Bester had been in touch with Magudumana whilst in prison and after his “death” last year she attempted to claim his remains as his “customary law wife”.
Last week, GroundUp reported that Magudumana and Bester abandoned their rented Hyde Park mansion on Tuesday, 21 March. It is alleged that a fight had broken out between the couple and their landlord who evicted them due to non-payment of rent. Bester was using Katlego Tom “TK” Motsepe Nkwana as his alias at the time.
The doors to Magudumana’s practice — Optimum Medical Aesthetic Solutions — at Green Park Corner in Morningside, Sandton remain shut and the lights are off.
Last Monday, she announced on Instagram that her practice would be open on Wednesday at 09:00.
