Reeva Steenkamp’s final Instagram post was on February 10, 2013, just four days before she died. “I woke up in a happy, safe home this morning,” she said, referring to gender-based violence and the gruesome death of Cape Town woman Anene Booysen. Not everyone”.
Just a few days later, South Africa would wake up to the tragic news of Reeva’s death. According to Pistorius, he shot and killed his girlfriend after mistaking her for an intruder. However, during his high-profile trial, the court heard evidence of how the former Paralympian was jealous, hot-tempered, and trigger-happy.

Three years after her death, Reeva Steenkamp’s family established a charity in her honour, assisting victims of GBV.
On their Facebook page, the organisers have shared pics of Reeva, who herself was passionate about helping others. They’ve also shared screenshots of her final Instagram posts, with captions that have are both inspiring and bittersweet.
One reads: “You were blessed to wake up this morning! I’m 100% certain it was for a special purpose”.
