Just a few days later, South Africa would wake up to the tragic news of Reeva’s death. According to Pistorius, he shot and killed his girlfriend after mistaking her for an intruder. Three years after her death, Reeva Steenkamp’s family established a charity in her honour, assisting victims of GBV.
On their Facebook page, the organisers have shared pics of Reeva, who herself was passionate about helping others. They’ve also shared screenshots of her final Instagram posts, with captions that have are both inspiring and bittersweet.
One reads: “You were blessed to wake up this morning! I’m 100% certain it was for a special purpose”.
