Tweeps were set on fire after learning that famous singer DJ Maphorisa had been detained for beating his fiancée Thuli Phongolo. Despite Thuli dismissing the accusations against him, the producer was released on R4000 bond last Monday.
The two then issued a joint statement requesting the public to allow them to handle the situation discreetly. Human rights campaigner Ntsiki Mazwai has now condemned the couple for “undermining genuine cases.”
Many people appear to agree with Ntsiki Mazwai and have offered their thoughts on the Thuli P and Maphorisa saga.
“The matter has received mixed public attention, causing a great deal of emotional stress on both parties involved. It is on this basis that the parties have elected to resolve this matter privately through their respective management and legal teams.”
“Consequently, Phongolo has since withdrawn the charges laid against Sekowe,” reads the statement that was issued by local actress Thuli Phongolo and DJ Maphorisa on Monday this week.
The statement has been slammed by hundreds of social media users who think Thuli is setting a bad example when it comes to gender-based violence.
And now poet and entrepreneur Ntsiki Mazwai has joined in on slamming Thuli and Maphorisa.
According to her, couples need their own courts to deal with these kinds of matters because “they don’t mind being in the back-and-forth abusive relationships.”
“It completely undermines genuine cases because clearly, you guys don’t mind being in the back-and-forth abusive relationships, but it actually does matter in society. So I believe that couple needs their own systems because I’m tired of these celebrity girls dropping charges,” she says in the now viral video.
