Minnie Dlamini, a South African actress and star, has cleared the air about her high-profile relationship with former Bafana Bafana captain Itumeleng Khune.
While they were together, Minnie and Khune were arguably South Africa’s biggest IT couple. Before their abrupt split in 2014, many thought they were destined for marriage and a life together.
She revealed the biggest misconception about her life on DJ Fresh’s podcast WAW! What A Week. She revealed that Khune never paid lobola for her and that, contrary to popular belief, marriage was not on the cards for them.
“The worst misconception is that Khune lobola’d me, that is the worst one. I hate it! Hate it. People still think it’s true. It wasn’t even a conversation,” she said.
Minnie confirmed to The Daily Sun that a soccer player never lobola’d her and that the first time she received lobola was when she got engaged to Quinton Jones in 2017. The couple got divorced in February 2022 and The South African reported how she is now recovering after the divorce.
“It was very difficult because I was going through it alone. No one knew what was going on — my family, my friends no one — so it was very healing for me to be able to use the character to find myself and my truth.”
“My character journey gave me a lot of strength in fighting for myself and fighting for the life that I want to live moving forward. So I am so grateful for it. It taught me to fight for myself and to stop caring about what people think and not worry about what other people’s opinions are going to be because they’ll have opinions regardless of what you do. But when you go to bed, are you happy with yourself or happy with your life,” she said.
