There has been a social media narrative for more than a year that media icons DJ Zinhle and Pearl Thusi had turned from friends to adversaries.
The couple have risen to the top of Twitter’s trending topics due to their purported dispute, although they have both denied it.
The Indlovu hitmaker can be seen comforting actress and presenter Pearl Thusi in a recent Instagram photo.
Pearl shares her love for late rapper AKA and how tough it has been for her to listen to his songs in the article.
AKA — whose real name is Kiernan Jarryd Forbes — was sadly gunned down in February in Durban. He is the father of DJ Zinhle’s first daughter, Kairo Forbes (7).
“Well done Kiernan. I’m sure you couldn’t wait to perform this one. I’m kinda mad we never go to see that properly with whatever your bigger vision was…
“I miss you, bro. I even miss arguing with you. Sorry I took long to really listen properly. It was still too painful. You should be proud of this one… wherever you are,” she wrote.
In response, DJ Zinhle writes: “I’m so sorry, friend”.
Pearl also shares the lyrics of one of AKA’s hit songs titled Company, which is on his posthumous album, Mass Country. In the song, AKA says “Diamonds ain’t gqimm’ shelele” and the actress says she thinks AKA was trolling her with that lyric.
This is because the catchphrase “gqimm’ shelele” is synonymous with her ex-boyfriend and sportscaster Robert Marawa. He is popular for signing off with it at the end of his radio and TV broadcasts. Gqimm’ Shelele is also the title of the 947 presenter’s book which he released last year.
In 2016, Pearl and Robert Marawa publicly dated. Their first public appearance as a couple was at the annual Vodacom Durban July in of the same year. They, however, broke up in 2017.

Last year, fans alleged that DJ Zinhle and Pearl had a fallout and the former Quantico actress was replaced by rapper Nomuzi “Moozlie” Mabena who featured more on the Umlilo hitmaker’s social media.
Rumours escalated in September when a short video of the Era by DJ Zinhle founder seemingly giving Pearl Thusi the cold shoulder went viral, therefore prompting a response from the Siyabonga DJ who said she was not being mean to her friend.
A month before, DJ Zinhle told SowetanLIVE’s SMag that she and the Fistful of Vengeance actress have an everlasting sisterhood.
“Pearl and I are fine… we have an everlasting sisterhood. Much like every relationship has its ups and downs, we go through that as well.
We are at a point in our lives where we don’t have to explain ourselves to people as long as we’re accountable to each other and our friendship,” Zinhle said.
