The case of DJ Maphorisa and his girlfriend Thuli “Thuli P” Phongolo has been rescheduled until July 5th.
Maphorisa appeared briefly in Randburg Magistrates Court on Wednesday, June 14. The lawsuit was postponed since no state representatives were present during the proceedings.
He is charged with assault after Phongolo filed a case against him at the Sandton Police Station on May 7. On the same day, he was detained for allegedly attacking her at his residence in Sandton, Johannesburg. On May 8, he appeared in court and was given R4 000 bail.
Themba Sekowe, real name Abalelele, came in the court with his bodyguards and management team on Wednesday, June 14th. They drove journalists away as they did not want to be photographed.
DJ Maphorisa’s lawyer also did not want to comment on the matter.
According to NPA spokeswoman Phindi Mjonondwane, Maphorisa allegedly hit Thuli and strangled her at his apartment after she confronted him about an incident that happened the previous night where he was booked to perform.
Phongolo appeared at the court with her team and covered her face from the media during Maphorisa’s initial appearance on May 8. Maphorisa was granted bail and informed that his bail restrictions would be enforced until the allegations against him were properly dropped.
