Despite public outrage, Cele has remained silent about the star’s murder.

On Friday, February 10, AKA and his best friend Tebello Tibz Motsoane were shot and killed by an unknown gunman outside a Florida Road hotspot. Police are looking into two counts of murder.

Speaking in a press briefing in Cape Town on Friday, 17 February, about the quarterly crime statistics, Bheki Cele was asked about his lack of presence at the crime scene in Durban.

The minister is known for making an appearance in high-profile cases.

Admonishing the journalist who asked the question, said: “We don’t really go for cameras. There was no need to go to this one”.

Bheki Cele then revealed that he had been in constant communication with Provincial Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi and “top cop” Brigadier Vela Cele, who were handling a detective task team on the case.

He was also in contact with the family of AKA.

‘BEAUTIFUL MESSAGES FROM FAMILY’

Bheki Cele also insisted that the Forbes family was impressed with his conduct on the case.

“I spoke at length with the family of AKA Tony Forbes. So why would I have to go to the crime scene?

“The family is very satisfied. I have beautiful messages from the family, which I won’t read”.
