Babes Wodu, award-winning gqom star, after a viral video of her singing and dancing at Mandla “Mampintsha” Maphumulo’s memorial service.
Mampintsha’s memorial service took place on Thursday at Durban’s eThekwini Community Church. Babes remained strong and celebrated her late husband’s life. When Big Nuz’s latest chart-topping single Ngeke came on during the proceedings, she stood up and danced along with her child Sponge Wodumo.
Her fans took to social media to show love to Babes for being strong and celebrating her husband. Others reckoned that would have done the same to her.

Culture is oppressive and unreasonable. It's women who are usually expected to follow the cultural standards and norms. Babes Wodumo should be allowed to celebrate her husband the way she wants.

Nice to see Babes Wodumo dancing and smiling even though it hurts … She's a strong woman and I hope she bounces back on her career and be ontop

Mampintsha definitely looking down and smiling from ear to ear, seeing Babes Wodumo and Sponge honoring him in that manner… Dancing and singing like their lives depend on it. A proud husband and a father. Babes is a rock ❤️ #MampintshaMemorialService #MampintshaMemorial

DJ Tira has advised Babes to work on her career. “Babes must go back to the top of the charts. When she joined the music industry she was charging R100,000 per gig. You [Babes] should not be comfortable [with earning less] and you need to get out of your comfort zone if you want to go back to the top. You need to work hard and have a focus. Also, we still have Sponge [Babes’ child] to raise because Mampintsha is no longer with us. We as his friends, we will do anything for him [Mampintsha],” said Tira.
Dj Tira🗣
"Our sister Babes Wodumo needs to get back to her throne. She needs to get back to charging 100k per gig. I will always assist Mampintsha's son 'Sponge' as needed".#MampintshaMemorial #RIPMampintsha pic.twitter.com/gyg48029l5
