This was stated by the late rapper’s family in a statement posted on his social media accounts earlier today. AKA was assassinated on February 10th by suspected hired hitmen as he walked out of a popular Durban restaurant.

AKA’s family, his company Vth Season, his management team at The T Effect, and his label Sony Music Entertainment Africa issued the following statement:

“The family continues to celebrate the life of their son. To honour his legacy, they are choosing to continue with the release of the MASS COUNTRY album on the 24th of February, 2023, as planned.

“In the last two years, the album has become AKA’s entire world. The Supa Mega constantly kept the album release momentum and anticipation high.”

Before he died, AKA had dropped three singles from MASS COUNTRY: Lemons/Lemonade with Nasty C, Prada with Khuli Chana and Paradise featuring Musa Keys and Ghanaian songstress Gyakie.

According to his wishes, a fourth single titled Company, featuring Kiddominant, will be released this Friday, the 17th of February. He recorded the song during his January vacation in the United States.

AKA’s close friend, advisor and business partner at his company Vth Season, Raphael Benza, attested to the rapper’s dedication to the upcoming album MASS COUNTRY:

“Kiernan worked very hard on this project. The energy and expectations from the Megacy fuelled him to make a masterpiece. We are delighted, even at our saddest moment, to share the music he left behind for us for eternity…Long Live, Supa Mega, Live Long!! The world will never forget AKA, and that’s a promise…”

AKA’s music has been trending on the Top 100 Apple Music chart in South Africa. Lemons/Lemonade is on #2, Jika #3, Fela In Versace #10, The World Is Yours #14, Prada #15 and Energy on #20, among many of his other hits.
