The Basadi Music Awards: Lamiez Holworthy And Lerato Kganyago Win Big

The first ever Basadi in Music Awards (BIMAs) were a sensational event honoring the contributions of women in the music industry. The BIMAs, held on October 15, 2022 at the Gallagher Convention Centre, featured thrilling performances and moving acceptance speeches.

Broadcasters and DJs Lamiez Holworthy and Lerato Kganyago were the night’s big winners, taking home two awards each. Holworthy was named DJ of the Year as well as Music TV Presenter of the Year, while Kganyago was named Entertainment Radio Presenter of the Year and received the Mosadi in Business Achievement Award alongside DJ Zinhle and Dineo Ranaka.

Anele “Ney the Bae” Zondo and Nomuzi “Moozlie” Mabena, the evening’s anchors, kept the audience engaged and on their toes with just the right amount of sass. They also introduced artists such as Makhadzi, who gave an electrifying performance and was named Artist of the Year. Gospel Artist of the Year nominee Mmatema, Rap/Hip Hop Artist of the Year nominee Nadia Nakai, Skwatta Kamp’s Relo, and KB Motsilanyane were among the other performers.

Boohle was named Sampra Amapiano Artist of the Year, Phumla Music was named Kaya959 Afropop Artist of the Year, Lizwi was named Sofnfree Dance Artist of the Year, and Zodwa Mabena was named AC Wines Jazz Artist of the Year. Skye Wanda was named SAMRO Songwriter of the Year, while Amanda Maliba was named Entertainment Journalist of the Year and Prudence Mathebula was named Radio Producer of the Year.

Mam’ Abigail Kubeka and Mam’ Yvonne Chaka Chaka were both honored with Lifetime Achievement awards for their contributions to genres and the music industry as a whole. These icons were honored for exceedingly breaking down barriers and leaving a lasting legacy.
